RCS has a limited number of unused, unloaded Super Loki rocket motor assemblies available. The Super Loki motor assembly consists of a high-strength aluminum alloy casing, graphite nozzle, steel nozzle retainer (all preassembled), four aluminum fins spot welded to the casing and a match-drilled forward bulkhead. The forward bulkhead is designed to be retained in the casing with spring pins (not included).

While supplies last, customers who purchase a Super Loki motor assembly will also receive a casting mandrel assembly at no extra charge!

The forward bulkhead was retained in place with 36 spring pins, the equivalent McMaster part no. is 98296A959. A drawing of the pins can be downloaded by clicking here.

Industrial Solid Propulsion (ISP), Inc. loaded around 200 Super Loki and Viper 3A motors for Orbital Sciences Corp. in the 1990s. ISP developed an analog HTPB propellant formulation (designated "8522") to replace the original Polysulfide formulation. The simplified formulation using current RCS ingredients is:

8522 propellant ballistic properties:
Burn rate coefficient 'a' = 0.027
Burn rate exponent 'n' = 0.405
Density = 0.06087 lb/in3
Gas molecular wt. = 25.278
Stagnation temperature = 5429 deg. R
Gamma = 1.216

The motor was lined with 250 grams of an HTPB-based formulation which consisted of:

143.8 grams RCS HTPB
1.0 grams LICA-38 Titanate
1.0 grams RCS CAO-5
10.0 grams Lampblack
50.0 grams Trichloroethane
44.2 grams RCS Modified MDI Isocyanate Curative

The material was poured into the case, swabbed around the interior and allowed to cure horizontally while rotated on a drum roller for 24 hours.
